Rick, manager at Crucial Web Hosting, took my ticket and in 15 minutes had my transfer resubmited. The "transfer approval" email arrived a few minutes later, and was in my account in less than two hours. I think I was too quick placing the order after overwriting ProtectFly, probably a stale whois record. Didn't have near the problems I was expecting.
I found Crucial Web Hosting while doing a search on Web Hosting Talk for $5.99 domains. New company run by old hands at hosting. They even offer free cPanel based hosting with the domain registration, but it is ad-supported. A $1.99/month, 2 GB disk space, 20 GB bandwidth, and full-featured cPanel shared hosting, as well as larger plans. Check them out.
Looking forward to a few years of trouble free webpages. Sure makes up for the past 4 months of hosting and registrar troubles.
